At Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) in Hamburg this week, TCI Aircraft Interiors announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dolby Laboratories, marking the start of exploratory discussions around the potential use of Dolby Atmos® and Dolby Vision® in future inflight entertainment (IFE) environments. The collaboration will explore how Next-Generation audio and visual technologies could elevate the passenger entertainment experience on board.

The MoU reflects a shared interest in evaluating how next‑generation audio and visual technologies could enhance the passenger entertainment experience on board aircraft. Through this non‑binding agreement, TCI and Dolby will explore technical and commercial considerations related to immersive sound and high‑dynamic‑range video for future IFE solutions, with a particular focus on TCI’s "Cornea" In‑Flight Entertainment ecosystem.

Elevating the digital cabin with Cornea
TCI’s Cornea system is designed to be the "Architect of the Digital Cabin," offering a versatile and scalable platform that seamlessly integrates into modern aircraft environments. By exploring the integration of Dolby’s world‑class HDR and spatial audio technologies, TCI aims to further enhance Cornea’s capabilities, which already include:

● A seamless, user‑centric interface designed for intuitive navigation

● High‑performance hardware capable of supporting high‑definition content and complex digital services

● A flexible architecture that allows airlines to customize the passenger journey and digital touchpoints.

“At TCI, we continuously seek innovative technologies that can elevate the passenger experience,” said Müjdat Uludağ, CEO of TCI. “This Memorandum of Understanding with Dolby allows us to explore how immersive audio and visual technologies could shape the future of inflight entertainment, perfectly complementing our Cornea ecosystem’s vision of a fully connected and immersive digital cabin.”

“As inflight entertainment continues to evolve, there is an opportunity to bring more immersive, cinematic experiences into the cabin,” said Javier Foncillas, VP Global Commercial Partnerships. "Together with TCI, we’re excited to explore how technologies like Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision could enhance how passengers experience content in the air.”

As part of the collaboration discussions, demonstrations at the TCI booth (#5A50) during AIX will showcase Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision technologies in a demonstrative setting, helping illustrate the potential of immersive entertainment experiences in aviation.

This MoU does not constitute a finalized partnership or a commitment to product deployment, but rather establishes a framework for continued dialogue and evaluation between the two companies, the April 14 press release said.
