Delta Air Lines becomes launch customer for accessibility map from FlightPath3D
Delta Air Lines has been announced as the launch customer for the FlightPath3D accessibility map. This is the culmination of a huge effort, marking a milestone in the company's mission to create inclusive journeys with maps for every traveller.
“We are committed to providing a map for every traveller, regardless of ability, age, or the device they use. While there will soon be a legal obligation for airline IFE features to comply with both the Americans with Disabilities Act and European Accessibility Act, we believe there is a deeper moral responsibility to ensure that all passengers have a more accessible journey experience. Launching Accessibility Map is a big step for us to further our goal of empowering every individual and make travel more inclusive for everyone,” said Duncan Jackson, President, FlightPath3D at APEX Global EXPO in Long Beach.
Ekrem Dimbiloglu, Managing Director of Customer Experience, Delta Air Lines, joined Jackson onstage for the announcement. The accessibility map is now flying on 170 Delta aircraft and Dimbiloglu said he hopes to see it on 600 aircraft by the holidays.
“We saw [the accessibility map] and said ‘we’ve got to have this,’” Dimbiloglu explained. “It’s going to move things in the right direction and I remember saying to my team, not only do we have to have this but we have to have this fast.”
Jackson said he was overwhelmed by the warmth and excitement in the initial response from Delta to the accessibility map, also noting that the accessibility map from FlightPath3D is ADA compliant.
Dimbiloglu said, “We want to lead in this space, we want to show that this is important to us as an airline. But I don't want to be the only one that has an accessible map; I want the whole industry to have accessible maps. We have a moral imperative to do what we can to make the experience better. It can't just be about driving dollars and cents. It's got to be about doing the right thing."
