Stellar brings AI assistance to compliance screening with Cosmo Vision

Stellar Lab's Cosmo Vision is an AI-assisted content compliance screening technology
With AI changing the way content moves through the inflight supply chain, Stellar Lab is introducing Cosmo Vision, an AI-assisted content compliance screening technology developed to make screening faster and more tailored, while significantly increasing the volume of content that can be handled at any one time.
Cosmo Vision is an AI-assisted content-compliance screening tool built for inflight entertainment. It reviews a title’s video, subtitles and metadata against each customer’s own compliance criteria, flagging and time-coding potential issues for Stellar Lab’s specialists to assess. The result is faster turnaround and far greater screening capacity. It is the first release under Cosmo, Stellar’s family of proprietary AI technologies.
Inflight compliance has no single standard, the September 24 press release said. What clears for one airline, market or distributor may not for the next, so the same title needs a different review each time. Cosmo Vision was built for that, screening against each customer’s own criteria rather than a generic benchmark.
Its impact is greatest at scale. Cloud-native and operational 24/7, Cosmo Vision can process multiple titles concurrently, with capacity scaling as demand grows, so much larger volumes of content can move through the process with each title reviewed to the same standard. For airlines at cycle change and distributors working to fixed windows, that is time back in the schedule. Screening runs entirely within Stellar Lab’s secured, TPN Gold Star Shield–certified environment, so customer content stays protected throughout and is never used to train AI models.
While AI carries out the initial analysis, the final decision stays with Stellar Lab’s screening specialists, who assess the findings in context and apply their experience and judgement. What changes is the starting point. Each review opens with potential compliance points already identified and time-coded, giving specialists a map of the title before they begin rather than replacing the review itself.
“The volume of content moving through inflight entertainment has grown, and compliance screening requires a high level of detail and judgement. Those requirements can vary significantly depending on where and how content will be shown. Cosmo Vision gives our teams a more intelligent way to manage that complexity, helping them find what needs attention faster and work across much greater volumes of content, while keeping the final decision with the specialists who understand the content and its context,” said Jono Fagg, Senior Technology Strategist, Stellar Entertainment.
Development of Cosmo Vision drew on current scientific research in multimodal video understanding, so visual content, dialogue, and subtitle text are analysed as related signals rather than in isolation. That research sits alongside Stellar’s own experience in inflight content processing, and the technology has been tested across a broad range of customer requirements and editorial guidelines.
Stellar offers compliance screening within its full content service and as a standalone service. That covers full catalogues, single titles, and screening with EDL generation, for airlines, studios, and distributors alike. What that looks like in practice varies, but the effect of Cosmo Vision is the same throughout: turnaround times are considerably shorter, reviews are more consistent from one title to the next, and more titles can be screened in parallel.
Cosmo Vision is the first release under Cosmo, Stellar’s family of proprietary AI technologies. Further technologies are already in development across Stellar’s services and internal workflows, reflecting a broader investment in applying AI to practical industry challenges.
“AI is changing inflight entertainment, but our focus is on where it can solve real problems and improve the way the work gets done. Cosmo brings together the proprietary AI technology we are developing at Stellar, starting with Cosmo Vision and a more intelligent approach to compliance screening that keeps our people and our customers’ requirements at the centre,” said Fagg.
