Panasonic Avionics’ Astrova IFE enters service with Air Canada

Panasonic Avionics’ Astrova IFE system are now in service on Air Canada aircraft, offering 4K displays, Bluetooth audio and enhanced in-seat connectivity
Panasonic Avionics Corporation has announced that its Astrova inflight engagement (IFE) solution has officially entered service with Air Canada, marking the system’s first deployment on one of the airline’s A321 aircraft.
The Canadian carrier is retrofitting Astrova across 19 A321 aircraft, with plans to expand the solution to an additional 67 aircraft spanning multiple fleet types. This includes line-fit installations on 23 A220-300, 30 Airbus A321XLR and 14 787-10 aircraft, supporting Air Canada’s broader cabin modernization strategy.
Passengers onboard equipped aircraft can access a home-cinema-style experience, featuring 4K OLED HDR10+ displays and spatial audio delivered directly to personal wireless headphones via integrated Bluetooth technology. The system is designed to elevate onboard entertainment quality while aligning with evolving passenger expectations for seamless, device-friendly experiences.
Astrova also introduces enhanced onboard productivity features. Each seat is equipped with up to 67W of USB-C power, available gate-to-gate, allowing passengers to charge smartphones, tablets and laptops throughout the journey.
A key differentiator of the system is its modular architecture. Astrova’s patented removable peripheral bar can be hot-swapped to support future upgrades, including evolving standards in connectivity, power and passenger interfaces. This flexibility enables airlines to adapt the system over time without requiring full hardware replacements.
“We are delighted to see our award-winning Astrova IFE solution officially take flight for the first time on Air Canada,” says Hernan Abbes, Senior Vice President of Global Sales, Panasonic Avionics Corporation. “This debut demonstrates the flexibility and scalability of Astrova across diverse aircraft types, while delivering a truly premium, cinematic experience at every seat.”
John Moody, Managing Director, Onboard Product, Air Canada, emphasized the importance of consistency across the fleet. “Providing a consistent, premium experience across our diverse fleet is a top priority for Air Canada. The scalability of the Astrova system allows us to seamlessly integrate industry-leading entertainment across all aircraft and all classes of service,” he says. “We are excited to offer our passengers this exceptional level of high-fidelity video, audio and in-seat power as we continue to modernize our cabin interiors.”
