FlightPath3D brings Sunset View to commercial aircraft

FlightPath3D has announced that its newest feature, Sunset View, is now available across its global commercial airline customer base.

Originally designed for VVIP travelers, Sunset View delivers a cinematic map experience to the inflight journey.

“With the cinematic-style immersion of Sunset View, we are once again expanding the luxury inflight experience from Gulfstreams to gates,” said FlightPath3D President Duncan Jackson. “We believe the inflight map should be part of the journey—breathtaking and cinematic, elevating every moment in the air. We built these views for the most discerning of flyers and we’re proud to now offer the ultimate experience to millions more.”

Sunset View transports passengers to the precise location on Earth where the sun is setting. The map reorients and zooms to reveal a sweeping horizon bathed in gold, tracing the sun’s slow descent along the curve of the Earth. The cinematic perspective invites travelers to pause and watch as day turns to night in real time. Sunset View offers a connection to the planet below while at 35,000 feet.

From private jets to commercial cabins
Sunset View is the latest in a family of features that first launched in private aviation and are now scaled and tailored for commercial deployment. Among them is Flying Over Places, powered by a curated database of over 100,000 points of interest. It dynamically highlights landmarks, historic sites, natural wonders and cultural icons—guiding passengers through an exploration of the world as it passes beneath them.

Another is Aircraft 360, a hyper-detailed 3D rendering of the aircraft’s exterior, tailored to the exact model, livery, engines, and even antennas. Originally developed for private jet owners who take pride in every detail of their aircraft, it now brings that same level of precision to commercial fleets allowing passengers to rotate, zoom, and admire the plane they’re flying on.

These features reflect FlightPath3D’s broader commitment: taking what was once bespoke and making it universally available, without sacrificing precision or polish, the press release said.
