PAC celebrates the opening of new software center of excellence in Portland

Panasonic Avionics Corporation (Panasonic Avionics) has announced the opening of a new software center of excellence in Portland, Oregon.

The January 15 press release said this strategic expansion will further augment Panasonic Avionics’ global software capabilities and solidify its position in personalized digital engagement technology development for the airline industry.

Panasonic Avionics’ global software development presence includes engineering talent in Irvine, California, Malmö, Sweden, Osaka Japan and most recently in Pune, India. The Pune facility, which was launched in July 2024, was further strengthened with the addition of a software support team in Mumbai.

The Portland center is set to play a crucial role in driving innovation. By tapping into the region’s pool of skilled software engineers and developers, Panasonic Avionics plans to enhance its existing software capabilities and accelerate the development of transformative IFEC experiences for airlines and their passengers.

The new facility is integral to Panasonic Avionics' strategy of helping airlines bring their passenger digital engagement goals to life. The center aims to streamline operations and reduce the lifecycle costs associated with IFEC solutions.

The Portland center will launch with a core team of software engineers that specialize in Linux®* and AndroidTM operating systems. They will play a key role in Panasonic Avionics’ ongoing efforts in developing next-generation software platforms.

“As a leading global supplier to the world’s leading airlines, we are constantly looking for new capabilities that help us deliver on our brand commitment of engagement beyond entertainment. Airlines today are perpetually looking for solutions that enhance their brand, improve NPS, and drive higher levels of customer loyalty. By combining best-in-class hardware engineering and advanced software engineering skills including cloud, edge computing, AI and much more, we will continue to help them deliver those connected, personalized and memorable moments that help our customers realize their business objectives,” said Satyen Yadav, Chief Technology Officer at Panasonic Avionics.
