TAP Air Portugal launches inflight film festival
TAP Air Portugal (TAP) has announced the launch of its first onboard film festival, the Altitude Film Fest. The festival will celebrate the world of cinema and aims to provide unique experiences for the airline's passengers while promoting Portugal and Portuguese culture and traditions. Registration for the festival is free and applications are open until June 30.
This festival offers TAP passengers the chance to enjoy an exclusive selection of films during their flights, providing a new dimension of entertainment at 30,000 feet.
The Altitude Film Fest gives filmmakers from all corners of the world the chance to compete in two categories, documentary and fiction short films. Their films will be screened and voted on in one of Portugal's largest cinemas: the inflight entertainment system on TAP Air Portugal's long-haul airplanes.
To qualify, films must focus on Portuguese culture and/or part of the film must be shot in Portuguese territory.
For each category, TAP will appoint a panel of judges, made up of a distinguished group of personalities linked to the world of cinema, who will be responsible for viewing and selecting the 10 finalists. These films will then be made available on TAP's inflight entertainment system during October, allowing passengers to watch and participate in the choice of winners through a survey on the IFE platform.
The winners will be chosen in two separate stages: 40 percent of the final score will be awarded by the festival’s official jury, made up of experts from the film industry. The other 60 percent of the final score will be determined by the vote of passengers travelling on TAP aircraft equipped with an in-flight entertainment system.
The winners of the Altitude Film Fest will be revealed at an awards ceremony on World Cinema Day, November 5, in Lisbon.
The films awarded the Grand Prix for Best Fiction Film and Best Documentary will receive a travel grant worth 3,000 euros each. This award is intended to recognize the artistic and narrative excellence of the winning films while offering filmmakers the opportunity to explore new horizons.
