Safran Passenger Innovations has announced that the RAVE Inflight Entertainment (IFE) system now supports Extended Reality (XR) including Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR) and Mixed Reality (MR) devices. This will enable passengers to interact with and navigate the RAVE IFE system and watch onboard IFE content via their Extended Reality device.

In an industry-first, Safran Passenger Innovations can now offer an immersive cinematic IFE experience in all cabin classes, the May 27 press release said.

This innovative solution is developed on the RAVE Wireless platform and will be available on aircraft with RAVE Seat Centric IFE and aircraft with only RAVE Wireless IFE. The solution will allow airlines to differentiate the passenger experience between fleet types.

Safran Passenger Innovations is also updating its user interfaces to accommodate seamless navigation with many XR devices, allowing passengers to control IFE functions using their device interface.

“At Safran Passenger Innovations, we are always excited to be able to embrace new technologies and integrate them as a part of the overall entertainment and engagement experience, giving passengers the ultimate choice about how they interact with IFE on board, whether through the seat back screen or spatially through an XR headset,” said Ben Asmar, Vice President of Products and Strategy, Safran Passenger Innovations.
