Panasonic's Astrova 4K OLED screens under production in Osaka
Panasonic Avionics Corporation (PAC) is ready for the future as the Astrova IFE system takes to the skies. PAC calls Astrova “an extension of the passenger’s daily life” with the ability to tailor the entertainment experience to their needs.
The company took to LinkedIn this week to share the news that Astrova’s next-generation OLED screens are rolling off the production line at its manufacturing facility in Osaka, Japan, soon to be entertaining airline passengers inflight.
“The 4K OLED screens are an integral part of our new Astrova IFE solution, which has already been selected by several airlines including United Airlines, Qatar Airways, SAUDI AIRLINES, and Icelandair,” PAC said via LinkedIn.
The OLED technology is one of several unique features of the Astrova IFE system. The average light level of 38 LUX and a peak of approximately 350 LUX OLED delivers an optimal brightness level.
“The OLED technology is literally perfect for the aircraft cabin, the perfect black and infinite contrast ratio not only provides the best quality but also ensures the cabin isn’t awash with backlights when dark,” said Andrew Masson, Vice President Product Management, Portfolio Management, Strategy and Marketing at Panasonic Avionics Corporation.
News of the monitors in production in Osaka comes just weeks after the inaugural shipment was sent to launch customer, Icelandair.
