The First and Business Class monitors have been added to Astrova portfolio

Panasonic Avionics Corporation has announced the expansion of its Astrova IFE portfolio with the introduction of new 4K OLED monitors specifically designed for First and Business Class cabins.

The upgraded screens will be offered in five different sizes: 19, 22, 27, 32, and 42 inches, providing a wider range of options to cater to the widebody aircraft market.

Featuring 4K OLED technology, the new monitors deliver unparalleled image quality, ensuring the highest definition and clarity for passengers in all cabin classes. The enhanced display exhibits sharper visuals, exceptional colour reproduction, and an infinite contrast ratio, guaranteeing a cinema-quality experience never seen before on commercial flights.

“Astrova is transforming the seat back into an easily configured, flexible and personalized digital channel that caters to the individual needs of each passenger, enabling airlines to engage with their customers in flight like never before,” said Andy Masson, Vice President of Product Management at Panasonic Avionics, in a June 6 press release. “With the introduction of these new 4K OLED screens for premium aircraft cabins, Panasonic Avionics is enabling airlines to enhance engagement with their most high yielding passengers, helping them to not only retain existing customers, but also attract new ones.”

Astrova, Panasonic Avionics’ next-generation IFE seat-end solution, aims to redefine the role of seatback entertainment systems by offering airlines a valuable opportunity to engage with passengers throughout their journey.

With an impressive adoption rate surpassing previous industry-leading IFE systems, Astrova has already captured the attention of airlines. Astrova creates an immersive environment for passengers, boasting industry-leading 4K OLED screens combined with spatial audio delivered through Panasonic Avionics’ latest Bluetooth technology.

Passengers on Astrova-equipped aircraft will also benefit from up to 100 W of DC power at their seats, available via USB-C ports, enabling fast charging compatibility with a wide range of electronic devices, including phones, tablets, and laptops. The IFE seat-end solution also incorporates programmable LED accent lighting, enhancing the overall passenger experience while allowing airlines to optimize the cabin atmosphere.

As part of its commitment to sustainability, Astrova offers significant weight savings compared to alternative seat-end architectures, ultimately contributing to reduced fuel consumption.

Astrova’s modular architecture ensures easy upgradability throughout its lifecycle with minimal re-certification efforts and costs. Panasonic Avionics plans to provide new processors every three to five years, along with upgrades to Bluetooth, USB power, and jacks, or whenever new technology becomes available.

Airlines opting for Astrova will also benefit from Panasonic Avionics’ unique business model, guaranteeing access to the latest IFE innovations, and transforming each seat into a touchpoint that immerses passengers in the airline’s brand experience.
