JetBlue and Thales strengthen IFE partnership

By Jane Hobson

JetBlue announced today that Thales’ AVANT inflight entertainment system will be part of the onboard experience for its new fleet of 70 A220-300 aircraft.

Scheduled for delivery in 2020, Thales’ AVANT IFE will provide JetBlue customers with a selection of entertainment and information at every seat.

The Android-based system has high capacity servers, locally stores content and integration with the onboard connectivity system. Seats on the A220 aircraft will feature the latest 10-inch high definition screen with picture-in-picture functionality, custom connected applications, audio-and-video-on-demand and personal device pairing for personalization and choice. USB and AC power will also be available for every passenger to keep personal devices charged.

JetBlue and Thales first partnered in 2000 when the technology solutions company was selected to launch live television at every seat of the airline’s A320 fleet. Thales’ inflight entertainment and connectivity solutions now support 253 of JetBlue’s single aisle aircraft.

Philippe Carette, Chief Executive Officer of Thales InFlyt Experience, said in a statement released by the company today: “JetBlue has relied on Thales to be their inflight entertainment business partner for almost 20 years, and we are proud to continue building on this partnership with the airline’s first A220 fleet.”

Mariya Stoyanova, director of product development at JetBlue, added: “In 2000, JetBlue set out to disrupt the industry as the first airline to offer live TV on every seatback, on every plane. We’re extremely proud to continue this long-standing relationship with our partners at Thales, and look forward to introducing a brand-new, custom-for-JetBlue generation of inflight entertainment on our A220 aircraft.”
