Flightful app connects passengers with free inflight text messaging
New inflight text messaging app Flightful announced today that the service is in closed beta testing and will be available on the AppStore and Google Play later this autumn. The app’s first demonstration to the general public took place onboard FlyingLab’s flight from Munich to Lost Angeles on September 7 for the start of APEX Expo 2019.
The free iOS and Android app allows airline passengers to stay connected with text messaging on commercial inflight Wi-Fi networks. It includes popular apps such as iMessage, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger.
To access the inflight text messaging service, passengers need to use the Flightful app to connect to the aircraft’s Wi-Fi network with a “one-click” login. The app uses an encrypted connection for all data to and from a users’ phone. The standard service is free, but an upgrade to full inflight internet access is available through Flightful for US$1.
Developed by RebelRoam, onboard Wi-Fi traffic optimization service, Flightful currently supports more than 30 airlines.
The Flightful team is attending APEX Expo 2019 in Los Angeles from September 9 to 12.
