SWISS connects passengers with Starlink Wi-Fi onboard
Starlink will be available onboard select SWISS flights from September 28
From September 28, Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) will bring high-speed internet powered by Starlink onboard. It will provide fast and reliable internet bandwith above the clouds. A SWISS A320neo will be the airline's first aircraft to feature the service.
SWISS is gradually introducing satellite-based internet connection onboard. The Starlink technology will provide passengers with fast and reliable internet throughout their journey, from gate to gate. The internet service will be available free for Miles & More members and Travel ID users, across all travel classes. Passengers will be able to send messages, share photos and use a wide range of online services.
The offering is being introduced across the Lufthansa Group under the name "Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi powered by Starlink". At SWISS, the first aircraft to be equipped with the new technology is an A320neo. The aircraft, registered HB-JDM and named Iseltwald, will enter scheduled service on September 28. Its first flight will operate as LX1852 from Zurich to Thessaloniki.
Expanding fast, reliable connectivity onboard SWISS
Soon, SWISS will equip three aircraft from the A320 family with the new internet connectivity. The installation will then continue gradually across the fleet. By end of 2029, the entire SWISS fleet is expected to be equipped with the technology.
The internet service is another step in enhancing the travel experience for passengers. With Lufthansa Group Wi‑Fi powered by Starlink, connectivity is set to become faster, more reliable and available across the entire SWISS fleet.
Guidelines for onboard use
To ensure passengers feel comfortable onboard, SWISS is applying a few rules for travelers using the internet connection during their flight. Passengers watching videos or listening to audio content are asked to use headphones and pay attention to crew announcements. Voice and video calls are not permitted as is broadcasting live content during the flight. Passengers sharing photos, videos or other content from the aircraft should respect the privacy of other passengers and crew, SWISS said in its September 28 press release.
