Viasat Inc has surpassed one million inflight Wi-Fi sessions through its connectivity partnership with Vueling, highlighting growing passenger demand for fast, free onboard connectivity across Europe.

The milestone, announced at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, follows the October 2025 rollout of complimentary Wi-Fi across Vueling’s A320 fleet. The service is now available on more than 80 aircraft, offering passengers access to streaming, gaming, social media and a 3D interactive flight map.

The connectivity platform combines Viasat’s digital services with the European Aviation Network (EAN), enabling a free, ad-supported model designed to align with the needs of cost-conscious carriers. Since launch, Vueling has reported a 13 percentage point increase in customer satisfaction related to onboard Wi-Fi.

“Staying connected and entertained while in-flight is increasingly an expectation from Vueling’s customers,” said Melanie Berry. “We set about creating a platform with Viasat that makes it easy to access content and services from any personal device throughout the flight.”

Viasat says the system delivers improved speed and performance, supporting high-bandwidth activities such as video and audio streaming. The company’s ad-sponsored session model is also intended to help airlines offset costs while maintaining free access for passengers.

“It has been an incredible journey collaborating on a new approach to ad-supported inflight Wi-Fi and onboard services with Vueling,” said Meherwan Polad. “The fact we are already seeing so many customers connect, and really enjoy their experience, is testament to the demand for innovative onboard connectivity.”

The service is powered by the European Aviation Network, which integrates satellite coverage with a ground-based network operated by Deutsche Telekom. Designed specifically for the European market, the hybrid system supports consistent connectivity across the region while using low-drag aircraft hardware to minimize fuel impact.

As airlines continue to invest in digital passenger experiences, Viasat and Vueling say the partnership demonstrates how connectivity can enhance satisfaction while supporting new revenue models through advertising and onboard services.
