PXCom rolls out SkyLink for wireless IFE platforms

PXCom has unveiled SkyLink, its latest wireless IFE feature, taking the over-the-air update process for onboard servers to the next level. PXCom will be showcasing SkyLink at Booth #C12 at APEX FTE Asia Expo 2025 from November 11 to 12.
Automated remote content update & maintenance
Since the early days of its wireless IFE involvement, PXCom has prioritized automated remote update capabilities over manual methods such as USB sticks or dedicated laptops—for both content and software updates. This commitment led the company to carefully select 4G-equipped servers, among more than 50 hardware evaluation criteria.
This strategy quickly became a commercial success. A quick glance at PXCom’ customers shows that 85 percent of them embraced embedded 4G connection both for software and content updates, 10 percent offload their servers from the aircraft daily and connect them to a LAN network, and only five percent rely on USB or laptop-based processes.
Roaming costs
4G-based server updates are typically limited to an airline’s main hubs to prevent excessive roaming cost, PXCom said in its November 7 press release. For some specific use cases, PXCom developed a mitigation software module that allows limited roaming use —typically restricted to lightweight software updates, while content synchronization remains confined to domestic 4G networks.
SkyLink: On-demand updates, worldwide
To meet growing demand, especially from ACMI and Charter operators, PXCom has launched SkyLink, a new feature enabling on-demand server updates worldwide.
With SkyLink, PXCom customers can leverage eSIM technology to activate connectivity as needed and update their onboard servers from anywhere in the world, ensuring unmatched operational flexibility.
