IndiGo taps AirFi for IFE trial

IndiGo has selected AirFi for a three-month trial of wireless, steaming inflight entertainment. From May 1, AirFi's solution activated onboard flights between Delhi and Goa, the May 28 press release said.

AirFi's wireless inflight entertainment portal is available through the IndiGo mobile app under the name HELLO 6E. The hope is that the low-cost carrier will find the IFE portal useful in elevating the passenger experience inflight.

There is a streaming entertainment component of AirFi’s solution, enabled by Shermaroo Contentino (based in Mumbai) and West Entertainment (based in California). The two content partners will provide access to a library of 200 hours of carefully selected Indian and Hollywood movies, TV shows, music and games.

AirFi’s platform will be customized with features that are unique to IndiGo, such as two airline-branded games delivered via Dublin-based games developer, Gladi8or.

Passengers will be able to access to AirFi's 3D moving map product, which uses the aircraft's ADS-B receiver to monitor the route in real-time. Passengers can view the aircraft’s accurate location, speed and altitude at any point during the flight. The map also allows passengers to take a closer look at geographical features and it provides points of interest around the origin and destination of flights.

“IndiGo is where it is today because of the bold choices it makes. They don't do anything by halves, which is why we're thrilled to have been chosen for this trial,” said Job Heimerikx, CEO, AirFi. “IndiGo is on a journey of continuous digitization, and we believe AirFi, as the global market leader in streaming IFE technology, is uniquely placed to help the carrier achieve its goal of catering to evolving passenger expectations.”
