Panasonic's high-speed, low-latency inflight service is set to fly worldwide in 2023

OneWeb and Panasonic Avionics Corporation (Panasonic Avionics) announced today that the companies will partner together to enable Panasonic Avionics to market, sell, and support OneWeb’s high-speed, low-latency LEO inflight broadband services to commercial airlines worldwide.

The release today said that coverage and performance will improve inflight surfing and streaming for passengers and will open the door to new, low-latency airline passenger experiences such as live gameplay, video conferencing, and VoIP communication. Panasonic Avionics’ will make its catalog of cloud-enabled, broadband-connected applications available over the OneWeb network, including mobile phone connectivity, ARCTM moving map, ZeroTouchTM content management, and related services.

“Our mission at OneWeb is to enable airlines to deliver a consistent, terrestrial-like connectivity experience to their passengers, no matter when or where they are flying,” OneWeb Vice President Mobility Services, Ben Griffin said. “This connectivity experience will drive value through enhanced passenger satisfaction and loyalty, ancillary services, and operational efficiencies.”

The top-tier supported products will have forward link speeds approaching 200 Mbps and return link speeds up to 32 Mbps everywhere, including polar routes.

According to the release, Panasonic Avionics expects to support OneWeb-equipped aircraft in the second half of 2023.
