Collection of dementia-friendly short films takes flight with Virgin Atlantic

WOFFF is bringing dementia-friendly short films onboard for Virgin Atlantic passengers for the third year
The Women Over 50 Film Festival (WOFFF) and Virgin Atlantic have announced the continuation of a partnership for a third year. This year's collaboration sees a collection of dementia-friendly short films curated by WOFFF take flight on Vera, Virgin Atlantic’s inflight entertainment platform.
"Our team have carefully selected each one to make sure travelers living with dementia have calm, engaging, and easy-to-understand films for times when longer films or fast-paced stories might be harder to enjoy when traveling," WOFFF said in its August press release. "Short films can bring story, humor, beauty and connection in a way that feels manageable. We hope this collection offers families, friends and carers travelling together a gentle, inclusive viewing experience to share."
Three years of films inflight
Since the beginning of this partnership in 2024, Virgin Atlantic passengers have enjoyed WOFFF-curated dementia-friendly short films more than 60,000 times.
"We are delighted that this positive response has helped the partnership continue and grow," WOFFF said.
This new collection brings together animation, documentary, comedy and portrait films. The stories travel from older women surfers in Australia and a third-generation New Mexico boot-maker to a Yorkshire farm shop, a village post office, a train journey and family memories of Guyana. The partnership with Virgin Atlantic is important for WOFFF, providing the brand with a new way for people to stumble upon and enjoy films made by or about older women.
"People living with dementia and their carers often face uncertainty when navigating the world, not knowing if an environment will be supportive, with this partnership we are able to support Virgin Atlantic’s wider aim to create inclusive travel experiences," WOFFF said.
The 2026 collection
The lineup of 2026 films includes:
- Bliss | Directed by Freya Zoharah K. Sørens: Surrounded by the roots of an ancient tree, an older woman’s soul leaves her body. Unsure where to go next, she finds guidance from a creature who leads her on her journey.
- Bootwmn | Directed by Paige Gratland and Sam McWilliams: A heart-warming portrait of Deana McGuffin, a third-generation New Mexico boot-maker who handcrafts wearable pieces of art.
- Gossip | Directed by Harri Shanahan: An older lesbian couple are enjoying a train-powered honeymoon. A ticket collector looks on, fascinated by how much they are loving life and each other.
- The Granny Grommets | Directed by Leah Rustomjee: A documentary about a group of older women in Australia who meet every Friday morning to catch waves and challenge expectations of what a surfer can be.
- Linda | Directed by Joe Lycett: Linda gets a job in a post office, but her tall tales soon raise suspicions. She has a story about everything and everybody.
- Moon-Magic | Directed by Carol M. Burger: Under a watchful moon and accompanied by sea creatures, three small sailboats move through the night as a comet sparkles overhead.
- My Dad, Guyana and Me | Directed by Noella Letitia Mingo: A loving documentary made with archive and contemporary photographs and home-movie clips of Guyana, exploring family, childhood, holidays and home.
- Pegs & Bacon | Directed by Sarah Mason: 84-year-old May Stocks is the heart and soul of a small farm shop nestled in a quiet Yorkshire village along the Pennine Way.
The latest WOFFF-curated collection is now on Vera, Virgin Atlantic’s in-light entertainment platform, on every Virgin Atlantic flight. The Women Over 50 Film Festival returns this September.
"We hope these films bring a little joy, connection and calm to your journey," WOFFF said of the collection.
