Brisbane Airport unveils new retail development

By Tanya Filippelli

A new AU$12m (US$11.3m) food court has opened at Brisbane Airport. The BNE Service Center offers a range of fast food and café options, and has seating for 200 people.

Designed by international architecture firm Thomson Adsett, the center, which is located off Moreton Drive at the Brisbane Airport precinct, is ideally located for easy access from the terminals and surrounding suburbs.

John Tormey, Brisbane Airport general manager of commercial business, said that the center will create more than 200 additional jobs for local residents.

“This is an exciting and busy time for Brisbane Airport and businesses continue to be attracted to our growing community,” he said.

“With more than 20,000 workers at the precinct and 21.8 million passengers passing through each year there is an appetite for additional convenient, quality food offerings and services.”

The development will feature a 24-hour Shell Coles Express, a 24-hour McDonald’s restaurant as well as a Subway, Hungry Jack’s, Sushi Mi, Airport Kebabs and The Coffee Club.

The McDonald’s restaurant, which opened in May, is already trading well and has proved to be popular with taxi drivers, airport passengers and local office workers.
