San Diego International Airport opens meditation room

By Tanya Filippelli

The San Diego County Regional Airport Authority has opened its first meditation room, The Spirit of Silence that provides passengers with a serene place to contemplate, meditate or pray.

Located post-security in Terminal 2, the non-denominational space is sensitive to the diversity of travelers and offers a calm respite before or after flights.

Created by Seattle-based artist Norie Sato, The Spirit of Silence takes inspiration from the changing edge between water and sky, clear and opaque, organic and built.

Evocative of the San Diego environment, the room encourages visitors to sit with their thoughts, shielded from the busy airport experience outside.
