By Melissa Silva

Lufthansa Technik AG has announced the enlargement of its product portfolio and the opening of a third U.S. location, located in North Charleston, South Carolina.

The company operates Aircraft Production Inspections stations in Everett and Renton, in Washington State. The first 787s have already been successfully supported and Lufthansa Technik inspectors are permanently on site.

"The inauguration of our third U.S. base for Aircraft Production Inspection is completing our vision of omnipresence and seamless service for our customers. We are now offering production inspection at all Boeing sites and for all Boeing aircraft types currently in production,” said Marcus Motschenbacher, Director Network Sales and Customer Service at Lufthansa Technik.

Marketed under the name of Aircraft Production Inspection Program (APIP), Lufthansa Technik is offering independent production inspection to airlines and leasing companies. APIP inspectors are stationed permanently at all major Boeing final assembly sites and also at other manufacturers.

“The Dreamliner is of significant importance for this business, as it sets a milestone in new aircraft technology and customer expectations," Motschenbacher added.
