New recreation area for passengers at Munich Airport

By Tanya Filippelli

Munich Airport has opened a new recreation area in departures, which can be accessed free of charge by all passengers.

Located on Level G in Terminal 2 departures, the new 220m² recreation area has 34 reclining seats where passengers can read, check their phones, or just relax.

In addition, 20 business stations are available with power connections for computers and mobile devices.

The waiting area was jointly developed by T2BG – the Terminal 2 operating company held jointly by Munich Airport and Lufthansa – in cooperation with the furniture maker, Vitra and Munich-based design office, Studio PS.

The area has been fitted with different types of plants and special lighting to enhance a sense of calm. Screen monitors are positioned to allow passengers to keep an eye on their flight status.

“Lufthansa passengers not only enjoy fast and smooth transfers to connecting flights in Munich. Thanks to the attractive surroundings, they also find that their waiting time just flies by,” said Marc Stadtlander, managing director at T2BG.

The new recreation area is the second to open in Munich Airport’s Terminal 2, following the opening of a similar recreation area on Departure Level H in mid-2012.
