Star Alliance opens new Los Angeles lounge

By Tanya Filippelli

The new Star Alliance Lounge at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) will open September 25 at the Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT).

With capacity for 400 First, Business and Star Alliance Gold Card passengers, the 1,675sqm lounge was designed by Gensler and features an open air terrace with fire pits, a water wall, and views of the northern runway towards the Hollywood Hills.

Member carrier Air New Zealand was appointed to develop and manage the lounge.

In addition to the outdoor terrace, the lounge has a bar, a library, a den, a study and a media room, as well as eight showers.

It offers high-speed Wi-Fi with tablet computers, printing, fax and copy services on request. As well as traditional power outlets, customers can use USB ports around the facility.

The design is inspired by modernist LA architecture of the 1950s and 1960s, in line with new guidelines for Star Alliance branded lounges. Black and white photos, shot by Peter Lik, complement the alliance’s corporate colours.
