United offers subscription for baggage fees, economy-plus seating
United Continental Holdings Inc. (UAL) unveiled subscription packages that offer customers access to economy-plus seating and cover baggage charges for a year as the carrier aims to attract travelers that are facing fewer airline choices amid consolidation in the industry.
The world's largest airline by traffic stated that it is the only U.S. carrier to offer an annual subscription for its extra-legroom economy seating and checked baggage service charges. Economy plus packages start at $499 and allow customers to select a region and the number of travelers included in their subscription.
Prepaid standard baggage subscription plans start at $349 a year and can cover as many as two bags. The subscription also can be tailored by region and number of passengers.
Shares were down 1.6% at $31.95 in recent trading. The stock has risen 37% this year.
