SSP opens three new outlets at Gran Canaria

By Rick Lundstrom

SSP has opened a new Caffè Ritazza, Upper Crust bakery and a bar at Gran Canaria Airport in the Canary Islands.

Upper Crust has proven a popular outlet for travelers in Spain with others operating in Malaga and Tenerife Sur.  Caffè Ritazza offers a range of coffees prepared by SSP trained baristas. The new bar, called Tropical, was created in co-operation with local brewery Compania Cervercera Canaria. It is located landside in arrivals and will replace an existing outlet.

“Many passengers using this airport arrive early on coaches, and we also have a larger number of visiting coach drivers and other meeters and greeters. Our new airside offer has been designed to give customers somewhere to relax and enjoy the time before their flight, while our landside bar will cater for those who are waiting to meet passengers,” said Blanca Ripoll, Managing Director of SSP Spain.

The new facilities are part of a major refurbishment by AENA Aeropuertos, which operates Gran Canaria. Later this summer, a new outdoor smoking terrace will be part of the Caffè Ritazza located in the check-in hall.

SSP has operated at Gran Canaria since 1994, when it won its first contract on the island.
