Cathay to focus on comfort in new program

“The new product offerings reflect our genuine desire to improve seat and cabin comfort and provide a better all-round flying experience for passengers across all classes,” said Alan Wong, Cathay Pacific’s senior vice president Americas in the September 26 announcement of a series of long-haul improvements in all three cabins.

The airline is currently in negotiations with design consultants. In first class, the airline plans a new seat that can be made into a chaise lounge, a wide and long bed, or an armchair. New lighting will be installed in the cabin, as well as a larger television screen and updated workstation.

In business class the airlines will add a flatbed seat, with a massage function and a 15-inch television screen. In economy, the airline will add a seat with a fixed back design similar to business class. The new seat offers passengers better knee and shin clearance and is simpler in design than its predecessor. A larger personal television screen with audio and video on demand will also be added in economy.

Retrofit of the new products will start in January and continue through mid-2009.
