Delta upgrading transcon service

The first 737-800 with new seats and audio and video on demand joined Delta Air Lines’ transcontinental fleet October 10.

The 737 narrowbody has 16 seats in first class and 144 seats in economy. The aircraft is has a new slim-line seat from Weber Aircraft LP, which adds 1.5 inches of space in economy class seat pitch and more room for under seat storage. Delta selected Panasonic Avionics Corp. for its AVOD system that is in both first and economy classes. The system gives passenger access to 18 channels of live television. There is also access to 25 first run and popular classic movies.

For food service, Delta is offering a buy-on-board program on transcontinental routes with menu items from US$2 to $10. Routes of 2,000 miles or more will have some signature products from Chef Todd English. Delta plans to expand the food service offering for flights of more than 1,000 miles by next spring.
