ANZ launches wine scholarship

Promising young winemakers have the chance to get a head start on their careers with a program announced at the Air New Zealand Wine Awards last month.

The airline plans to award a scholarship that will give the recipient a chance to study at a New Zealand winery specializing in their chosen style; a trip to Europe to study winemaking; and a spot on the judging team for the Air New Zealand Wine Awards.

Air New Zealand goes through approximately 820,000 bottles of wine per year on its flights, "It would be fantastic for us to one day see wines by the apprentice we support through this programme offered as part of our prestigious in-flight line-up,” says the airline’s chief executive Rob Fyfe in the November 11 announcement of the new program.

Participating in the program is John Belsham the owner of Marlborough’s Foxes Island Wines, one of the most well known wineries in New Zealand.
