A 35-inch wide seat awaits passengers on Singapore Airlines First class

SIA calls new cabin “benchmark for premium travel”

Singapore Airlines late last month gave the industry one for the first looks at the shape of cabin service A380 when it unveiled its new designs incorporating, entertainment and luxury perks in first and business cabins for the big jet and its fleet of 777s.

The US$360 million program was announced in October, though vendors and acquisitions were picked much earlier. Wide-screen LCDs, private vanity areas, Givenchy designed details are all part of the first class offering. The airline is writing complete flexibility into its meal service and the menu in first class will be presented a daily chef’s recommendation.

In Business Class, 30-inch wide seats are in a 1-2-1 configuration with a monitor of 15.4 inches. The Givinchey appointments will be in the designed bedding and dining equipment.

In economy SIA highlighted an enhanced entertainment system. In addition there will be a suite of office tools in its Krisworld entertainment system that allows passengers to do spreadsheet, presentations and word processing. The airline has selected Sun Microsystems StarOffice Productivity Suite for the service. SIA has also added power ports staggered in two for every three seats.

SIA will launch the first of the new cabins on routes from Singapore to Paris and Zurich in December for its 777-300ERs. It will be on the A380 when SIA, the launch customer, receives the first aircraft in October of 2007.
