KLM plumbs passenger emotions for new breakfasts

Morning tapas on international flights, and foods designed to rehydrate the bodies of passengers after a long flight are among the new menu items on the winter schedule of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines

To assist the airline in making meals more holistic, the carrier worked with Professor Peter Desmet of the Delft University of Technology and the KVD reframing and design agency in Amsterdam. The professor has done research into passengers’ interests and emotions. The tapas served offer passengers a choice of light and heavy snacks

“Drawing from the recent scientific insight into perceptive aspects of the relationship between people and products, KLM has succeed in developing a breakfast concept directed at nurturing the emotional interests of its passengers,” says Desmet, in the October 26 release on the new breakfast menus.
