Indian Railways plans ISO and HACCP

The Indian government’s Ministry of Railways has been engaged in high-profile effort to improve food service on the country’s trains, and recently announced several goals for the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corp.

The government has directed licensees to obtain International Standards Organization (ISO) designations and Hazardous Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) certifications. The government is stressing the need for modernized equipment and professional manpower for the kitchens along the Indian Railways routes as well.

The move is an effort to modernize the base kitchens, which are in New Dehli, Mumbai and Kolkata.
