LSG buys out Citynet share, adds China Eastern

Earlier this month LSG Sky Chefs announced that it was taking full control of its operations at Birmingham International Airport by purchasing a 50 percent interest in the operation held by Citynet Catering.

The unit employs 85 people and caters Air India, Air France, Thomsonfly, Thomas Cook and SN Brussels Airlines. The two companies established the operation jointly in 2003 and the airport has experienced rapid growth since then, said LSG, in a release on the opening.

“We see a very promising future for Birmingham International Airport and believe we are now in the perfect position to respond to the growing demand for quality in-flight solutions," said Dale Easdon, LSG Sky Chefs regional operating officer for the United Kingdom.

In other news from the United Kingdom, LSG announced at the end of February that it will be catering China Eastern Airlines on its service between London Heathrow and Shanghai. China Eastern operates four flights per week from London and the caterer will supply approximately 125,000 meals each under the agreement. LSG will be supplying a Chinese-speaking team to service the account.
