Qantas to begin catering restructuring
Qantas Airways announced June 21 that it would retain its catering business, but substantially restructure the operation over the next several months starting with two facilities in Sydney.
According to a release from the airline, the two Sydney units will be reorganized, with one facility handling Qantas Airways and another dedicated to client airlines. Though not specific on what will be taking place, Qantas said the restructuring of units in Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Cairns “would also commence immediately.”
“This will involve an extensive review of the supply chain improving product engineering and demand forecasting, reducing inventory lines, leveraging our buying power and improving our use of food production technologies,” said the release.
The airline’s Snap Fresh food business will not be affected, said the release. However, the airline said as many as 30 employee redundancies will take place in the restructuring.
