Citing the company’s environmental standards and policies, Eurostar announced June 1 that it has awarded Momentum Services Ltd. the international contract for catering services. Momentum Services is the U.K. subsidiary of the Cremonini Group, which owns 51 percent of the company. The remaining shares are held by SSP Financing UK Ltd. Momentum has been supplying Eurostar with meals in Business Premier and Leisure Select classes. Under the new agreement, Momentum will provide catering for all onboard service. “Improvements in catering services will be integral to Eurostar’s recently announced Tread Lightly environmental initiative,” says a release from Eurostar. The railroad cited Cremonini’s ISO 14001 and ISO 22000 certifications as a key reason for picking the company. Eurostar says that Cremonini’s environmental commitments include the use of biodegradable and recyclable disposables, segregation of onboard waste and the use of organic and fair trade food and drink. Eurostar has launched a 10-point plan to reduce environmental impact and carbon dioxide emissions.
