In an announcement to company shareholders June 12 Alpha Airport Services chief executive Peter Williams said that as of June 11 Autogrill owned 62.4 percent of company shares and he expects an offer for the rest of the company shortly. “We believe that Autogrill’s offer for, and eventual ownership of, Alpha is very good news for the business and all of its stakeholders including our people, customers and suppliers,” said Williams. The ownership by the Italian provider of food and beverage and retail service in the travel sector is a “unique opportunity” for Alpha to develop on a “truly global scale” says Williams. Together, he said the two companies will be able to enhance the diversity of product offerings. He said Alpha's expertise in airline catering is particularly important to Autogrill. “We’re very excited at the prospect of becoming part of a larger organisation,” Williams concluded.
