Eurostar launches green initiatives
Eurostar has launched a 10-point plan to cut carbon-dioxide emissions by 25 percent per traveler journey by 2012.
Much of the initiatives involve the railroad’s rolling stock, which officials insist generate far fewer CO2 emissions than air travel. Eurostar is attempting to cut energy and power consumption on the high speed trains. The railroad is also planning to use fewer raw materials, different sourcing methods and stepped up recycling. New controls will be fitted for lighting, air conditioning and heating.
On the food service side, Eurostar will separating and sorting all on-board waste. Cups, plates and napkins will be either biodegradable or fully recyclable. Food will be sourced predominantly from the United Kingdom, France or Belgium.
