Virgin innovates lounge in Narita

The new “sunken lounge,” a sun deck and new business facilities and increased food service choices in the self-service snack station are part of the new upper class lounge for Virgin Atlantic Airways in Tokyo/Narita. The refurbished lounge re-opened July 14.

Virgin Atlantic plans to roll out its “Welcome System” throughout its operations. It is based on the airline’s Clubhouse at Heathrow Airport. The Welcome System gives passengers a combination of relaxation and the ability to complete business tasks quickly, said the airline.

The Clubhouse is stocked with new computers, a dedicated business area with international and business landlines. Passengers can charge up mobile phones and blackberries.

“All these facilities are linked through a series of screens, which display a variety of images on each side, giving the passengers different visual experiences as they move through the space,” says a release from Virgin Atlantic.

Virgin Atlantic Airways opened its new £11 million (US$20.5 million) flagship lounge called The Clubhouse at Heathrow in March 2006. The Clubhouse, which is more than 2,500 square meters, has been designed to feel like a private members’ club with a spa pool, steam room and sauna.
