Deutsche Bahn expands menus, bans smoking
As of October 1, Deutsche Bahn bistro cars will be smoke free and with a wider range of fresh products, reports the Financial Times Deutschland.
The railroad is rolling in more fresh salads and baked goods that it hopes will prevent a drop in revenue once the cars become smoke free.
The railroad tells the Times that it has been receiving complaints over the amount of smoke in the bistros. The railroad has stopped short of a complete ban on smoking.
The bistros are a cash machine for the railroad. The Times reports that catering cars earn €90 million (US$113 million) per year with about 38 percent generated from the drinks and small snacks on the bistro cars.
