Amtrak, GrandLuxe upgrade
Washington-Miami service
Amtrak is partnering with GrandLuxe Rail in what it says is the first time in history it can offer luxury accommodations on its route between Washington, D.C. and Miami.
The new service uses a separate, private seven-car luxury train attached to Amtrak’s Silver Meteor. Five-course meals, private rooms and butler service will be available in the GrandLuxe section.
The service will start in November and fares will start at US$789 for two and three day itineraries. Around the same time, Amtrak and GrandLuxe will begin will begin similar service on its route between Chicago and the San Francisco Bay area, between Washington DC and Chicago, Denver to Chicago and Chicago to Albuquerque.
GrandLuxe was formerly known as the American Orient Express and has operated long-distance multi-day itineraries throughout the United States. The line has elegant 21-car trains decked out with vintage furnishings and upscale cuisine.
