New economy class seats by Weber on Air India 747-400s

Air India improving 747s

A half dozen 747-400s operated by Air India are getting a total makeover with the first being used on routes to the United States.

The first refurbished aircraft was unveiled at a press conference last month. The airline has selected the French company Thales for its i4000 inflight entertainment systems. Jamco of Japan has supplied microwave ovens for first and business class. Other suppliers include Health Tecna for lighting and overhead bins and Weber Aircraft LP for the new seats.

Air India will be spending 50 million rupee per aircraft (US$1.2 million) for the improvements.
