The consortium of company executives who purchased Eurest Catering Services last fall announced this week that negotiations have ended in the purchase of Abela Hellas Catering Services S.A. in Greece. In addition, Newrest Group announced that it will be catering Aegean Airlines out of the nation’s capital. Abela Hellas Catering is headquartered in Athens and has been operating for more than 25 years. Terms of the agreement were not in the January announcement of the purchase. Newrest operates a subsidiary, Eurest Inflight Services Hellas SA out of the same city. “The acquisition is part of Newrest Group’s strategic plan to extend our network and market presence in southern Europe,” said a release from the Toulouse-based company. In other news from the company, Newrest announced that its subsidiary in Morocco has signed a joint venture for a local company, the Rahal Group, to take a 33 percent stake in the operation and form a company called Newrest Rahal Maroc. The operation in Morocco produces 27,000 meals per day for a variety of airline and non-airline related customers and Rahal Group has an 84 percent share of the Moroccan catering market. “Rahal’s gastronomic know-how and extensive network will marry with the technical capabilities and experience of Newrest in the field of restaurant services,” said the release from Newrest.
