Ligabue units bought by Servair Airchef
Servair Airchef, a joint venture operated by Alpha Airports Group and Servair, has purchased two units in Italy owned by the Ligabue Group.
The units are located in Verona and at Venice Marco Polo Airports.
Servair Airchef has a significant presence in Italy with catering at 23 airports, operating 13 bars and 11 restaurants and food outlets across the country. The purchase will bring in another half dozen airlines, including flag carrier Alitalia. The company estimates that the purchase of the two units will bring in an additional €2 million (US$2.6 million) in sales.
“We are particularly pleased to have the opportunity to service Delta Air Lines' and US Airways' long haul flights at the rapidly expanding Venice airport," says Alpha Chief Executive Peter Williams in the January 10 announcement.
Ligabue is a diverse company. In addition to airline catering, the Italian company supplies ships and ferries, food to offshore operations such as oil platforms. It has a presence in 10 countries around the world.
In addition to Venice and Verona Ligabue also operates airline and airport catering units at airports in seven Italian cities, producing approximately around 5 million meals per year.
