Amtrak ramps up meal service
The high-speed Acela train of Amtrak begin boarding an upgraded first class menu last month offering better wine selection and new china, glassware and flatware.
Beginning December 6, Acela trains had freshly prepared hot entrees on all meals. Four different omelets were available in first class, along with French toast, Belgian waffles and a fruit compote.
Dinner offered passengers pesto chicken and seared salmon with vegetables. Genoa salami, mozzarella cheese and artichokes with green and black olives. Lunch has fresh sandwiches, a variety of entrees, salad and soups.
Amtrak keeps the menus on a four-week cycle and varies wine selection with reds and whites. In business class, the railroad has a selection of snacks and beverages for purchase at the seat.
