Alpha opens café at Edinburgh
The new terminal extension at Edinburgh Airport is the home of a World News Café operated by Alpha Retail, as of February 1.
The café is located at what is called the South East Pier. It is the eighth café of its kind to open internationally. It was built at a cost of £400,000 (US$783,000) and will be open to the approximately 9 million passengers who pass through Edinburgh over the course of a year.
Alpha builds the World News Cafés after its CTN retail concept that brings in a modern coffee bar, retail services and catering. Alpha installs power points for laptops. Plasma screens flash the news throughout the day. Other entertainment features at the café are screens that run promotional messages throughout the store. At the café area, passengers can obtain up to date flight information.
The World News Café at Edinburgh is 170 square meters with about two-thirds of the space devoted to catering and seating for up to 50 people at a time.
Alpha’s menu includes hot and cold meals that can be eaten at the café or taken away. Breakfast paninis, croissants, fruit and pastries await travelers in the morning. Paninis, pies, sandwiches, baguettes and salads are served at noon and passengers in Edinburgh also have a specialty Scotch Pie that has been selling well, reports Alpha.
