American expands buy-on-board offerings

Starting the first of the year, American Airlines will be offering a new selection of fresh snacks and branded items that can be bought with credit cards, debit cards or cash.

The airline developed a line of breakfast bagels, sandwiches and an Asian chicken salad. Among the new snacks are a cinnamon and berry breakfast blend made by GNS, Mega Bite® Snickerdoodle Cookies, Stax® potato chips from Lays and M&M’s® candies. The snack selections will sell for US$3 dollars with bottled water for US$2.

American will offer the snacks on flights of more than two hours and the sandwiches and meals on flights of more than three hours. Previously, the airline had snack boxes with muffins on the flights of more than three hours. The bagels, sandwiches and salad will cost US$5.

Earlier this year, the airline began service using a credit card reader, with positive feedback from customers on the new payment option.
