Alpha tests A380 High-lift
Alpha Flight Services tested one of its new catering high-lifts for the A380 last month in Australia as the aircraft made its way through the Asia-Pacific region.
Alpha tested the truck, which it developed with Byron Aviation, an Australian company. Alpha plans to use the trucks in Australia to service Qantas and Malaysian Airlines when they take delivery of the big jet.
The A380 was on a series of global flight tests in a 555-passenger configuration. Alpha simulated catering the aircraft as part of a series of tests that took place at several stops.
Airlines can choose several ways to cater the aircraft. If both the upper and main decks are catered by truck, the aircraft can be fully equipped for a flight in 36 minutes. If airlines choose to bring trucks only to the main deck and make use of the aircraft’s lift, catering can be completed in 84 minutes.
