Gulf air trains nannies in-house

The first class of Gulf Air Sky Nannies to be trained in-house by the airline graduated August 14 in a ceremony at headquarters in Bahrain.

Since the program was started in 2003, nannies have undergone a training program at Norland College in the United Kingdom. Now, Gulf Air plans to add nannies to the crew through a five-day training session that will take place in Bahrain. Mary Jean, senior cabin services manager at Gulf Air said that the airline has the experience to “tailor make” the courses to train crew at the airline “and also serve the purpose of Gulf Air from a passengers perspective.”

The trainees undergo traditional nanny instruction. They meet and greet families at the boarding gate and provide assistance as needed. Gulf Air currently has more than 100 Sky Nannies operating throughout its system and more are scheduled to join the airline later this year.

Gulf Air has also made improvements to its food service. The airline’s award-winning food service component now has a completely revamped menu on its Middle East sectors.

From starters to main courses to desserts, a range of Arabic dishes– Arabic Mezze, Halloumi Salad, Shish Tawaook, Cousa Banadoura, Oriental Chicken, Cheese Konafa, Um Ali are now in service on Gulf Air.

“Our specialist menu design team, consisting of experienced and well qualified Arab chefs, has been working for several weeks, to bring together an exquisite and authentic Arabic menu so that customers can feel completely at home flying with Gulf Air,” said Gulf Air Executive Vice President for Marketing and Sales Lee Shave in the August announcement of the new service.
