ANA picks Noritake for economy class

All Nippon Airways did not have to look far for a new design of its international economy class tableware, picking a range of products from the well known the Japanese ceramics maker Noritake.

ANA says the launch in the November is a result of a yearlong collaboration. “Both companies explored material, color, size and shape to compliment ANA’s inflight menus, in keeping with tradition the Japanese culinary customs that dictate that meals should not only be delicious to eat, but also a feast for the eyes,” says a release from ANA.

The airline picked an ivory-white porcelain with a simple relief combined with a dark tone of the tray on which it is served.

Other changes have been made to the airline’s inflight service. Starting in September, meals on flights to Europe and North America will be served on full size trays 26 by 38 centimeters in place of the current two-thirds size of 26 by 26 centimeters.  Economy class meals will also comprise two additional dishes rounding out the service with the ever-popular Haagen Dazs ice cream as dessert.
