Envac to supply waste system to Qatar Airways unit
Envac Scandinavia AB will supply a Vacuum Waste System for Qatar Airways’ new flight kitchen at Doha New International Airport in Doha, Qatar.
Qatar Airways will spend SEK49 million (US$8.2 million) for the waste management system, plus a further SEK9.8 million (US$1.6 million) for a five-year operation and maintenance contract.
Envac officials say it is largest order for a Vacuum Waste System by a flight catering operation. The system should be installed and ready for operation by October of 2009. Envac is working with the German company I+O in Heidelberg which is designing the layout of the unit.
Once operating, Qatar Airways’ new kitchen has been designed to produce up to 85,000 passenger meal trays a day. The kitchen also has a unit for producing food for hospitals. The system is expected to have a maximum daily throughput of up to 100 tonnes or 375 cubic meters of waste from the production of meals and returned trays.
